If your new puppy has been chewing on your desktop computer's electrical cord, repair it and deter your pet from causing damage to other electrical items by using the information below. By taking action now, your computer will continue to operate properly when turned on and you will prevent a serious electrical problem from occurring inside of your home.
Clean And Tape The Cord
Unplug the computer and wait several minutes for the electrical cord to cool down. Visually inspect the cord to make sure that none of the wires that are located inside of the casing are damaged. If your puppy bit through any of them all of the way, you may need professional assistance from a residential electrician. Bend the interior wires so that they are straight and push all of them together..
Secure a piece of electrical tape to the outer casing by wrapping it several times around it. Make sure that the tape is evenly distributed. Trim the end of the tape and press it firmly against the wire's exterior. Plug in the power cord and turn on the desktop computer to make sure that it is powering up the proper way.
Prevent Your Puppy From Chewing Through Wires Again
Complete some simple steps to ensure that your puppy doesn't try to chew through the computer cord or any other cords in your home in the future. You can install an electrical cable shield or another type of wire cover for a small fee. These items are sold by many retailers and home improvement centers. After purchasing one, line up the wire that you would like to cover so that it is flush with the wall.
Use a measuring tape to assist with keeping the cover straight. Mark the wall with a pencil so that you know where it needs to be placed so that the wire will be centered underneath it. Use a power drill to create holes for the hardware pieces that came with the cover. Hold the cover in place. Install the hardware pieces through the holes in the cover and each hole that you created in the wall. Use a standard screwdriver to tighten the hardware.
Once finished, push against the cover to make sure that it is secure. Install a wire cover over any other wires that you would like to keep protected. You will no longer need to worry about your puppy causing damage to any of the wires.Share
